Calculate BMI for Children

Calculate a child's BMI and see whether their weight is appropriate for their age and sex.

What is BMI in children?

BMI (Body Mass Index) works differently for children than for adults. In children, BMI is always assessed based on:

  • age
  • sex
  • BMI value

Because children are still growing, their BMI is compared with age-specific reference values. As a result, the same BMI can mean something slightly different at different ages.
