What Does an AI Prompt Cost?
The cost of AI depends, among other things, on the number of tokens processed. An AI model processes both the text you input and the response generated by the model. These are usually calculated separately as input and output tokens.
With our AI cost calculator, you can estimate this. You don’t need to count tokens yourself: paste your prompt into the text field and the calculator automatically estimates the number of input tokens and the expected output.
How Do You Calculate AI Costs?
The price of an AI request consists of two parts:

Input tokens: the text you send to the AI model.

Output tokens: the text the AI model returns.
The costs are calculated based on the price per million tokens.
The basic calculation is:
Input cost = input tokens ÷ 1,000,000 × input price
Output cost = output tokens ÷ 1,000,000 × output price
The input and output costs are then added together to determine the estimated cost per AI request.
What Are AI Tokens?
A token is a piece of text processed by an AI model. A token can be a word, part of a word, a punctuation mark, or another piece of text.
The number of tokens is therefore not exactly the same as the number of words. For example, a text of 100 words does not automatically contain 100 tokens.
The exact number of tokens depends, among other things, on the AI model used and the language in which the text is written.
Our calculator therefore uses an estimate of the number of tokens. The result is intended to quickly provide insight into the possible costs of an AI request.
How Is the AI Output Estimated?
With a prompt, we obviously do not know in advance how long the AI’s response will be. A short question may yield a short answer, while a request to write an extensive article can generate many more output tokens.
That’s why the calculator automatically estimates the expected output based on the length of your prompt.
This output is explicitly an estimate. The actual response from an AI model can be shorter or longer. As a result, the actual costs may differ from the calculated costs.
What Does AI Cost Per Prompt?
The cost per prompt depends on several factors. The most important are:

the number of input tokens;

the number of output tokens;

the price of the AI model used;

the number of AI requests.
A short prompt with a short answer can therefore cost only a fraction of a cent. With long prompts and extensive answers, the costs can be significantly higher.
If you want to use AI multiple times per day, you can also enter the number of requests per day in the calculator. The calculator then estimates the costs per day and per month.
What Does AI Cost Per Month?
The monthly cost of AI mainly depends on how often you use AI and how much text is processed each time.
Suppose an AI request costs on average €0.01 and you use AI 20 times per day. Then the estimated costs are:
20 × €0.01 = €0.20 per day
For 30 days, this amounts to:
€0.20 × 30 = €6.00 per month

Why Do AI Prices Vary?
Not every AI model has the same price. Providers may charge different rates for input and output tokens. Also, more powerful or extensive models can be more expensive than smaller models.
Therefore, always check the current price of the AI model you use and enter it into the calculator.
