How does the electricity usage calculator work?
Electrical appliances use electricity, expressed in Watts (W). However, energy suppliers charge by kilowatt-hours (kWh). One kilowatt-hour is equal to the energy used by a 1,000 Watt appliance running for one hour.
The calculator automatically converts an appliance's power rating into kWh and multiplies it by the usage time. The consumption is then multiplied by the electricity price you entered, so you can instantly see how much it costs to use.
What information do you need to enter?
For an accurate calculation, enter the following details:

Power rating (Watts): The appliance's power consumption. This is usually shown on the rating plate or in the manual.

Daily usage: Enter the number of hours and, if applicable, minutes the appliance is used on average each day.

Days per week: Specify how many days per week the appliance is used.

How is electricity usage calculated?
The calculation consists of two simple steps:

The power rating in Watts is divided by 1,000 to obtain kilowatts (kW).

This power rating is multiplied by the usage time in hours.
The result is electricity usage in kilowatt-hours (kWh). This is then multiplied by the electricity price to calculate the energy costs.
Examples
Electric kettle
An electric kettle rated at 2.200 Watt that is used for 15 minutes every day consumes approximately 0,55 kWh per day. At an electricity price of € 0,30 per kWh, this costs approximately € 0,17 per day.
Television
A 90 Watt television that is on for 4 hours per day consumes approximately 0,36 kWh per day. At an electricity price of € 0,30 per kWh, the cost is approximately € 0,11 per day.
